Dupe/Review: Australis AC Contour

Can anyone tell the difference between the Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit and the Australis AC Contour? Except for the packaging, I honestly cannot spot a difference without swatching it

Let's take a look at the swatches!

HIGHLIGHTS
Australis did a good job duping the highlight shades for the ABH's contour kit. The quality is really great and the pigmentation is just as good
The 3 highlight shades were almost perfect dupes. No.3 (Australis) is slightly beige-r than Sand (ABH) but other than that, nth is different.
Almost every contour shade was duped for except shade 1 (Australis). The shade is slightly warmer and ABH Java is slightly more reddish-grey. Most use the second shade (No. 2 / Fawn) to contour anyway because it is grey-er.

The Australis Kit is priced at SGD$24.90 and the ABH Contour Kit is USD$40 so it's kinda a no-brainer  which one you should try out!

Review/Comparison: NYX Tres Jolie Gel Pencil Liner

I am doing a quick review on the NYX Tres Jolie Gel Pencil Liner vs Marc Jacobs Highliner in Blacquer. For the longest time, the MJ one has been my go to for tightening and I went thru two of it. But the price of it at USD$25 is really crazy and I have been looking for an alternative for super long and I think I found it!!
I had quite a long day ahead and decided to put the two liners to test! Its crazy hot/humid in Singapore and I have oily lids so this was a good day to test it out.

Both liners were going strong in the afternoon and I was playing with my nieces and nephews and was having a crazy SWEATY day!

 Not much difference going on...
Now, both sides of the liners are still visible but the MJ one has started to flake off.
I took a short nap and when I woke up, the MJ one has completely flaked off. The NYX Tres Jolie is still going V V V STRONG!
Before I took a hot shower and wash everything off, the NYX one is still highly visible while my MJ one has completely rubbed/flaked off!

Well, the pictures did all the talking. The NYX one is really more worth it, right? Both weigh in at 0.5g but the MJ one costs USD$25 but the NYX one costs USD$12?!?!

Ok, hope this post helped u with the tightlining!

Highlight and Contour: Mystery Revealed!

Hi guys!

It has been waaaaay too long! I am back for a requested post - Highlight and Contouring. Do note that I am doing this for Asian faces specifically! There are a gazillion youtube videos on this topic but the good ones all belong to Westernised features so they are somewhat not the same. The basic explanation behind is still the same but there are still slight differences! I will introduce some you tubers I really enjoy watching and whom I think their tutorials on contouring really help me!

I am really into contouring especially because I have a total hate relationship with my face shape. I know, i know, love yourself and well, this is me loving myself!I have jaw muscles by the side of my face that makes my face seemed rounder than supposed and who doesn't love a slimmer nose? I also have an extremely high forehead but thats all the rage now in Korea so if you love your high, round forehead, go for it!

This post is for girls who want to look slightly more 3D/defined, compared to just slapping on foundation and blush. I am totally not into Korean/Japanese make up because I don't feel that they suit my face shape. If you are into those, this tutorial may or may not suit you. I am going to explain the two parts separately and introduce products that you can use!

Ok, let's look at the front first. We are going to talk about highlight first because it is easier imho and then we will move onto contouring!

So, the face chart is just smth I grabbed off Google (Thank you, Google!) because I can't draw faces to save my life. This is obviously not suited for everyone but the general idea is there. You pick the parts where you wanna use and then you try it on yourself!

HIGHLIGHTING
I am sure you've heard this before. You highlight all the parts where the sun hits. This is true and it is mainly centred in the middle of your face.
1. Forehead
2. Bridge of nose (that dips in)
3. Tip of nose
4. Cupid's bow
5. Chin
6. Cheekbones
7. Inner corner of eyes and slightly pass your eye circles
8. Under and above brow bones
9. Laughlines

Highlighting your forehead brings a more 3D look to your entire face, especially if you feel your face is a little 2D (Pancake face - which is really common for Asians). Bring your highlight down to your nose bridge because this gives a more connected feel and most Asians have bridges that dip in slightly and doing so can give it a more lifted look.

I never find the need to bring it all the way down because the part of my nose that dips is just the bridge. Then, I just highlight the tip of my nose so the under light, the highlighted parts will naturally connect. Highlighting the tip of the nose also lifts your nose and give it a pert look.

Highlighting your cupid's bow is new in the YT world - or rather, quite new to me. Its purpose is also quite simple, it highlights your tip of the lips and give it a fuller, poutier effect. Like, putting a lighter shade of lipstick in the middle of your lips.

Chin is optional but I like it because my face is round and not as elongated as I like it. This gives my chin a pointier effect and a sharper look. The cheekbones are self-explanatory, right? Who doesn't want higher, sharper cheekbones? If you don't, skip this step.

Next up, the inner corners of the eyes are darker due to blood vessels and whatnot. I place highlighter over my concealer so it brightens up the inner corners even more. This gives you a more awake look - even when you are not haha. Placing the highlighter slightly pass your eye circles can also add to brightening the area, even after you conceal.

Highlighting under and above brow bones can lift your entire face. I like this because my face is ridiculously roundish. Even if you don't have really arch eyebrows, doing this can still give you a overall fresh, lifted look.

Lastly, laughlines. I hate them. They are becoming more apparent on my face each damn year. However, with highlighting, you can bounce the darkness off and this lessen their appearance!

Products
Highlighting is NOT concealing. Please do not confuse the two. However, you CAN use a lighter concealer in place to highlight! You want your concealer to match your face if you are going to use it to hide blemishes or take away circles. You want a highlighter to be lighter so it stands out. Get it? I will talk about glitter vs non-glitter later on.

NYX HD Photogenic Concealer 02 Fair/Clair
This shade is ridiculously white. I use it when I am doing makeovers for fair people and it works perfectly. It is also really light and yet, pigmentation is awesome. I love this when I am going for a dramatic look. (Actually, any concealer that is lighter than your skin tone will work)

YSL Touche Èclat
The much talked-about of highlighters. I love this. It is pink-based and extremely light, yet it works beautifully. It is not meant to be use as a concealer despite what people like to use it for. I clicked it a few times and use it on all the points I talked about and voila, I'm a highlighted goddess (ok, kidding).

L'oreal Magic Lumi Highlighter
I am not too sure if this is found in Singapore but this is a much-approved dupe on Pinterest for the touche éclat! I really enjoy it as well and I use it on a daily basis if I know I am just heading out nearby for a short while (because the touche èclat is way to expensive).

Catrice Made-to-Stay Highlighter Pen
This is another one of my favourite because its super cheap and works so well. This has a slight sheen to it and I only use it when I am going for a night look because if over-used, it can look oily in this Singapore heat and weather.

Benefit Highbeam
This is the famous one we all know. But I really only use it when I see it in my drawer and I don't find myself reaching for it often. It does its job very well but for the price, I can easily find dupes and the Catrice highlighter pen is one. It has a pink sheen and can look oily if used too much. So sparingly and add on only when needed! The liquid dries quickly so you need to blend as you go.

For both highlighting and contouring, I prefer using a cream/liquid product first before powdering it because it stays and lasts longer! So the above listed are liquid products and I will talk about powder now.

Powder/Anastasia Contour Kit
This is my go-to but because it is not found in Singapore, I will talk about the powders and replacements you can use. Firstly, I love the shade Vanilla. Its a pink-based cream coloured powder and this is easily replaced by any paler eyeshadows you already own. Go two shades lighter than your usual foundation shade and you've most probably got yourself a highlighter powder. Next, the shade Sand is also a pink-based cream coloured powder but with little flecks of glitter. This is absolutely beautiful to layer on cheekbones, nose and inner corner. I don't like to use it on my forehead or chin because I feel that it looks too heavy and I come off as an oily grease ball. Now, look for any pale eyeshadow with a sheen and you have a highlighter with a sheen. I am not talking about glitter, but a silk sheen. If you own the Nakeds palettes, try using the lightest shade they have. It should work.

CONTOURING
Now this is my zone. I love contouring. I have received compliments when I contour so I know it works for me. Remember, you want to go in with a light hand because you can always add on but its really a bitch to try and remove excess.

TAUPE v.s. BROWN

there is a really big difference. Bronzers are brown. Warm-toned brown with orange undertones. They are meant to warm up your face, and that is why they are brown. There are many people who use it to contour and if you love it, go for it. Also, if you're slightly tanner, then bronzers will also work for you. I am saying if you are on the fairer side and want your contour to look natural and shadow-like, to mimic real shadows, then go for taupe. Taupe are cool-tone browns with grey undertone. They look like shadows on skin and that is why they are not completely brown.

Contouring is used to slim down certain parts of the face and not bring attention to it and I am talking about parts of my face that I use contour on. Focus on areas you want to stand down and don't go about doing your entire face if you have no need for it. E.g. if your forehead is not big, skip no. 1.

1. Forehead near the hairline
2. Hollow of cheeks (Right below cheekbones)
3. Jaw muscle areas
4. Right below lips
5. Sides of nose
6. Neck/under chin

I have a humongous forehead. No joke. I can fit my entire palm on it. It also doesn't contain much..flesh. Like, its bony. Do I make sense? Thats why I shade the top part to let it appear smaller and I highlight the middle to allow the bony areas to appear fleshier. [This is sounding like an episode off Bones or smth]

Make a fishy face. Thats where you want your contour to be. This step brings out cheekbones and you can move it slightly higher to give the illusion of higher cheekbones. If you find your hollow too low, start off from the top of your ear and angle it down to the corner of your mouth. Thats the general direction. Place 2-3 fingers flat from the corner of your mouth on the side of your face/cheeks and that is where you want your contour to end. Blend upwards and after you apply blush, you will find that it blends really nicely.

I have excess jaw muscles so it gives me a really roundish face. I contour really slightly at that area and drag it along my jaw lines to give my face a slimmer look. This is really unnecessary if your face is sharpish or elongated.

Contouring right below your lips can give your lips a poutier look. This is really not necessary for everyday as well but I like to do it when I am going for a really full face at night.

We, Asians, have really odd noses. Not all of us are blessed with small, high-bridged nose and not all of us dare/want to go for surgery to correct it. I like the size of my nose but I contour to give it a little better shape. I once went full-on and had an aunty whom I only see once a year, asked if I went for a nose-job. So, you need a small flat brush for this and any eyeshadow brush you have will kinda work. Grab the cream-based product you are working with and lightly mark out the lines you desire. The closer the two lines, the smaller your nose will look. Then drag your brush down the sides and concentrate on fleshy parts. I concentrate near the two sides of my nostril and this gives the illusion of a slimmer nose. Don't go overboard here because if you do, people can generally tell.

This chart is for point no. 6.
For a more defined jawline, use the contour shade and brush it along your neck and especially under your chin. This will help in the visibility of double chins and give you a more defined jaw line. So it doesn't look as though your neck and face blends into one.

PRODUCTS

There is only 4 products I trust for contouring because I find it unusually hard to look for taupe-ish colors. I use a contour brush (Real Techniques have a really good contour brush) because I think it applies better.

Illamasqua Cream Pigment - Hollow
When I first heard of this product, I went out and splurge on it. I think it costs over $40 but I have never regretted it. Firstly, as it is a pigment, you don't need much. A swipe or two is all I use and I think I have had this product for over  a year. It is the grey-est taupe-y color I have seen mimic real shadow and it looks absolutely natural on fair-skinned girls. For darker skinned, I have yet to find a cream pigment that mimics this so I am sorry :x

I then layer powder over it, which is the same technique as highlighting. Cream tend to disappear faster so layering it with powder really helps.

Illamasqua Powder Eyeshadow - Heroine
This is Hollow in powder form, basically. Need no further explanation

NYX Blush - Taupe
Its literally called taupe and its the dupe for Heroine. Unfortunately, its almost always OOS on the nix website and its not find-able in Singapore. (SINGAPORE, BRING IN MORE MAKEUP!)

Anastasia Contour Palette
I only use one shade for contour here, even tho three are provided. I find the other two too warm mostly so I only use Fawn. However, even Fawn is warmer than Heroine.

There is no sheen in shadows so avoid products that contain glitter or look silky. You want a matte shadow because any sheen will cause the opposite effect. Unless you're looking to bronze your face and give it a sun-lit glow, then go for sheen.

There. This is all. If you stayed till the end, go and try it out!! Highlighting and contouring might seemed scary but its really easy and fun once you have the right tools and shades. Now, go have fun and make your face smaller!

Love,
Pea

Review: NuMe Silhouette 100% Ceramic Tourmaline Infused Flat Iron

This post is not sponsored and all opinions are entirely our own!
(There's a really good coupon site revealed below!)

I have a love-hate r/s with my hair most of the time.
My hair is naturally thick, coarse and frizzy/wavy, especially back in Singapore where the humidity level is off the charts. I am always on the search for anti-frizz hair serums, tools etc.
Trust me. I have ALOT of tools. I own about 4 hair straighteners ranging from Conair to Babyliss and about twice as many curling tongs. I also own the Babyliss Big Hair tool. I am always on the search for a good hair tool that can maintain my tresses.

I really liked the Babyliss Big Hair on most days but the blowdrying makes it extremely frizzy, even with serum, oil, creme whatnot. My Conair flatiron works ok but it makes my hair dull! I like curling my hair but because of my length now, I cant do much curling.

So imagine my immense awe when I tried this that makes my hair go from the Before to After
I dont know about you but I was duly impressed. LOOK AT THAT SHINE. LOOK AT THAT BOUNCE. LOOK AT THAT STRAIGHTENING.

Product

Introducing the NuMe Silhouette Flat Iron! Ok let's talk specs and then I will go into details

  • Temperature control ranging from 140°F (60°C) to 410°F (210°C)\]
  • 1.25 inch with rounded ceramic floating plates
  • Negative ion technology
  • Swivel power cord

  • Temperature control is always goooood so you can decide how much heat you want to apply to your hair. The ceramic plates allows you to do less pass-throughs so you get less heat applied to your hair. Also, because the ends are rounded, you can round the ends of your hair without looking like its dead straight. The negative ion means it seals in natural moisture and makes it less frizzy! And swivel cord means less weird twisting hand positions.

    Packaging
This comes in a rounded case with all the details printed and it also comes with a manual although I think it is pretty straightforward. The temperature control and on/off switch in located between the iron plates so the outside is pretty sleek.

It has a velvety matte finish (think Nars packaging) and it comes in 5 really stunning colors - Turquoise, Pink, Purple, Black and Cobalt. I got the pink one!

    Verdict
Half my head done! My right side (your left) is how my hair normally looks after wash and dried naturally. I am normally too lazy to blowdry so I apply some oil and let it air dry. However, you can still see some flyaways and frizz.
The left side is after I straightened it. I really love this product. No joke.

Traveling overseas means I want a multi-functioning product that can do everything I want and not add weight to my luggage. The rounded plates means you can curl your hair without the kink, unlike when you curl your hair with a normal flat iron. Curl and straighten my hair with ONE tool? UH, YES PLS.

Can I let you in on one secret?
This product is crazy expensive (to me) at USD$139 and I really would not pay that price. HOWEVER, retailmenot is the best coupon website ever.  I have to share the good stuff.
Yes, I have officially turned into crazy-coupon lady. What? They save me tons! Guess how much I got this for.
    .
    .
    .
    USD$23.

    YES, $23!
well, I had to pay USD$12 for shipping but really, you cannot apply multiple coupon codes so unless you want to apply for free shipping and pay over $100 for the flat iron....I guess you can. Haha I decided I would rather pay for shipping. So overall I only had to pay around USD$35 for this product.

I straightened my hair and curled the ends yesterday afternoon (3pm-ish) and I didnt apply any mist/spray and just left it. Today, (2pm-ish) when I woke up, my hair was still fabulous! It had a nice bounce to it and it looks amazing. I love it. Normally I wake up with crazy bed hair and I have to wash it.

    Quick Summary

    The Awesome:

    • Controllable temperature
    • Rounded ceramic plates
    • Negative ion technology
    • Swivel cord
    • Managed to snag this at an awesome price
    • Gives my hair shine and bounce
    • Multi-functioning - straighten and curl
    • Comes in 5 awesome colors

    The Average
    • Expensive unless you get a code (which is almost available anytime)

Alright, hope this gives you all many fab hair days!

    Love, Pea

(P/S: I own the NuMe Magic Wand (Titanium curling wand 25mm) in Purple. I will wait till my hair is longer before trying that out for real and then put up a review!)

    Review: Dior Nude Air Serum

    Product
The highly-raved Dior Nude Air Serum.
According to the Sephora's website, this product is claimed to be weightless and filled with skin-happy stuff. I was nearly on the verge of getting the Armani Maestro, which is also a liquid pigment foundation but the price of it was just too much. And then this came by.
This has SPF 25 and it has 1oz of product. However, I must say the fragrance is very overpowering as is the smell of alcohol.

    Packaging

The bottle comes with a dropper which I think is highly useful, considering how liquid-y this product is. It is VERY runny. Its in glass bottle so thats really classy and nice, as is most of Dior's products.

    Swatches

My shade is in Light Beige 020 and its the second fairest shade. Sephora carries a total of 8 shades which I think is a good range. Light Beige has a slightly pinker undertone compared to the next fairest shade (Ivory).

    Application
I use my fingers to dot the product over my face and buffed it out with Real Techniques buffing brush. I tried using my fingers, but it felt as though the products were just being smeared around. The buffing gave me this really flawless look and I swear I saw my skin transform infront of me. It sets to a very satin finish which results in this really nice glow.

    Verdict

A little goes a long way. A very very long way. The liquid pigments ensured that there is coverage and at the same time, completely weightless. Can I add that this product does not contain talc? I love.
But I must say it emphasizes dry areas alot. For some odd reason my nose is peeling, and this just emphasizes the dry flaky areas. However, all in all, this is my HG for now.

This was my make up freshly applied. I don't have a picture closeup but when I checked, I'd like the setting after half an hour. I think it made everything even more natural.
And this is around 7 hours later. I can still see my blush, highlight and contour quite well! It stayed amazing. I really really enjoyed this foundation. It kept me generally oil free as well and strong fragrance didn't bother me, just fyi. All in all, I'm highly impressed with this foundation.

    Quick Summary

    The Awesome:
    The Average
    • Strong/overpowering fragrance
    • Cling onto dry spots
    • High-end price ($USD53 / $SGD88)

    Review: L'oreal Infallible Pro-matte foundation

Hi guys! Sorry for the long hiatus!
I am back for a review of the L'oreal Infallible Pro-matte foundation and powder. When this product hit the youtube world, I had such a hard time looking for it. I was literally walking from Walgreens to CVS-es in the freezing cold [blizzard in Boston right now] to find it.
[P/S: im really into shooting flat lays these days. heh]

    Product
So I present to you this highly-raved foundation and powder. I really like L'oreal foundations so I was expecting quite abit especially after hearing so many good reviews!

    Packaging
How awesome is this packaging. I love that the foundation comes in a tube which means you can get all the product out and also, control how much product you want. Plus points for staying hygenic!

The powder opens up two ways - top and bottom. The top is simply the compact powder while the bottom keeps a sponge and a mirror. I really like this because 1. I dont use the sponge and 2. It's cleaner even if you use the sponge. I hate it when there isnt any separator for the sponge and the product!

Plus both products allow you to see the color you're getting so that's awesome.

    Swatches
102 Shell Beige. The product comes out clean and nice without being too runny or liquidy. It blends easily as well and the shade has a pink undertone. [Apparently this shade and 101 is quite popular cause I managed to grab the very last one!]
200 Natural Beige. Ok side story, I was quite hesitant to grab this shade at first cause it looked scarily orange in the case. Shade 100 was OOS and I didn't dare go for 300. So I really just took a risk and bought it. And it works fine! I swatched it twice on the same spot and my wrist area is really fair and pink like my face so it seemed to go pretty well with my color! [you wouldnt have spotted it if I didnt circle the spot right] I think shade 100 is pink undertone while 200 [which looks mighty scary orangey in the case] is more of a yellow undertone. Since the foundation I got was pink UT, I thought the powder with a yellow UT was great since it will cancel out redness in my face

    Application
I applied half of my face with a brush and half with my fingers. It blends really well but really quick. I actually prefer the side I blend with my fingers. Maybe the heat from my finger tips allow it to blend easier.

    Verdict
This is how flawless my face looks with ONE layer only. I love how it cancels out, well, almost everything. I dust a super thin layer of powder over. BUT it does cling and emphasize dry spots so I would advise on exfoliating and moisturising. I misted my face after and it did helped a little.

I did my make up at 2pm and went out and came home at around 8pm. Its really cold and dry here so I wasn't anywhere humid or hot. It lasted really well and when I got home, my blush and contour was still intact. I love the look of it and how it set.

    Quick Summary

    The Awesome:

    • Both price for USD$13.99 at my local CVS
    • Foundation lasted really well and looked really good.
    The Average
    • Cling onto dry spots

    ok, Im gonna end here!

Review and Swatches: TOPSHOP Lip Products

    Hi everyone!

I'm back with another review and swatches :)

For those who don't like to read chunks of words.. I've made a video:

This is my first experience with Topshop lip products... Got a total of 6 products:

A mixture of lipsticks and lip bullets.

L-R: Crave / Back In The Game / Wine Gum / Motel / Pillow Talk / Brighton Rock

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

    LIP BULLETS

Got two colours from the Lip Bullet range called Crave (orangey nude) and Back In The Game (blue based hot pink). Was very impressed with how they swatch on my hand, but upon application, it felt sandy and it didn't stick well to my lips. The pigmentation however, is awesome and the colours are very vibrant and nice. I'm just kinda confused as to why it doesn't adhere well to my lips :/ It's like an obvious layer of colour sitting on top of my lips.

While looking for swatches online (some colours didn't have proper testers), I stumbled upon the swatch of the colour Motel. Tried looking for the colour but to no avail. Saw this box on the way to make payment and I got it another day. This set is made up of two colours: Wine Gum (deep purple), and Motel (brown based pink). They are the smaller version, you can see the comparison on the main picture or in the video. Motel looked like a good Kylie Jenner Lip dupe and I was very interested in trying it out. Same thing, the lip bullets didn't adhere well to my lips. The worst experience I had was with Wine Gum because it came out patchy and way toooo darkkkk.

Out of the 4 colours, my favourite is Motel. I just feel like it's not as patchy as the rest, although it still feels sandy upon sticking my lips together.

    Some swatches:

Crave / Back In The Game

    Motel / Wine Gum

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

    LIPSTICKS

Picked up two colours from the Lipstick range and I got Pillow Talk (velvet finish baby pink) and Brighton Rock (matte finish coral hot pink). I love the lipsticks! Maybe that's why they are pretty much out of colours when I was there. Glad I managed to pick up these two :) Both lipsticks are super comfortable to wear, very easy to apply, smooth and sticks well to my lips! I love how not drying the matte finish one is and it gives a lot of colour.

I love both but if I were to pick I really love Brighton Rock. I've always loved a good hot pink statement lips cause I feel that it can brighten up my whole face. I usually tend to forget to wear lip products so when I remember to use I'd usually go loud with Reds and Hot Pinks.

    Some swatches:

    Pillow Talk / Brighton Rock

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

Overall, I find these lip products worth trying out because the pigmentation is really good, especially impressed and happy with the lipsticks. The lip bullets are kind of a hit and miss. I love the colour range, love the formula and pigmentation on my hand but not on my lips :( However, I'll still continue using them because that's how much I love the pigmentation!

Furthermore, Topshop is currently having a Buy-1-Get-1 promotion for their make up range so it's definitely worth a visit and a try.

Do let us know how you feel about these products if you've ever tried them!

Topshop Make Up is available at most Topshop outlets in Singapore. Lipsticks (3.5g) and Lip Bullets (3g) are priced at S$19.90 each while the Lip Bullet set (1g each) is S$23.90.

    xx,
